Referred to as the body’s “master antioxidant, glutathione is the most powerful, naturally occurring, antioxidant in all human cells. It is known for its role in providing antioxidant protection to the body’ tissues, including the arteries, brain heart, liver, lung, and skin. Glutathione preserves and protects the brain and other body tissues, and acts to recycle vitamin C and E, to reduce free radical damage (free radicals cause damage to cells, tissue, proteins and DNA in the body which in turn can cause a variety of diseases).

A number of clinical studies regarding IV glutathione and Parkinson’s disease, have produced impressive results. IV glutathione, which is greatly depleted in patients with Parkinson’s, is particularly effective in treating neurodegenerative diseases. Neurological disorders can result when free radicals destroy neurons that produce dopamine, a vital neurotransmitter. Glutathione inhabits free radical production, thus slowing the effects of these conditions while improving brain function. Many patients have had profound improvement with respect to reduction of rigidity, increased mobility, less depression, improved ability to speak, and decreased tremors. Glutathione is given IV due to the fact that, given orally, it is broken down in the stomach losing its potency via the digestive system. The body’s own enzymes, in the stomach, break down the peptide bonds that hold the amino acids in glutathione together. With IV infusion, glutathione by-passes the stomach and goes directly through the bloodstream into the cells.
